Why Overdoing Wellness Can Hurt Your Hormones

If you’ve ever thought: “I’m doing everything right… so why do I still feel like this?”

You’re not alone. You’re eating “clean,” you’re taking ALL the supplements, you’re trying to manage your stress. You deeply care about your health.

And yet…

  • Your energy is inconsistent.

  • Your menstrual cycle feels off.

  • Your mood swings catch you off guard.

  • Your body doesn’t feel like it’s responding the way it should.

At some point, it stops feeling confusing and starts feeling defeating.

The Real Problem

What  no one tells you is the problem usually isn’t that you’re not doing enough. It’s that your body is overwhelmed by how much you’re trying to do.

What’s Actually Happening

When your body is constantly in a state of stress it shifts out of a state where it can prioritize hormone balance. Stress can be:

  • physical (under-eating, over-exercising)

  • mental (overthinking, pressure to do everything “right”)

  • emotional (feeling like something is wrong with you)

Because to your body, this isn’t the time to:

  • regulate your cycle

  • support stable energy

  • or optimize fertility

It’s a time to protect and conserve.

Why “doing more” backfires

So what do most of us do? (And I am raising my hand here!) We try harder by:

  • add more supplements

  • tighten our routines

  • restrict more foods

  • push ourselves to be more consistent

But more effort doesn’t always equal better results. Sometimes, it just creates more stress.

The Reframe

What if your body isn’t broken? What if it’s actually responding exactly as it’s designed to,  given the environment you’re in? If there’s one thing I’ve learned time and time again, it’s that your body has your back. She wants you to thrive and feel well, and she’ll outsmart any cruel tactics to shift her out of homeostasis.

So, what helps?

Instead of doing more, what often helps is:

  • simplifying your approach

  • supporting your nervous system

  • eating enough and consistently

  • creating rhythms your body can rely on

This is exactly the work I do with clients! I help them figure out:

  • what actually matters for their body

  • what they can let go of

  • and how to support their hormones in a way that feels sustainable
